Working on a sailboat is hard work. My entire body is covered in bruises (People keep asking if I'm half Dalmatian) and amazingly awkward sun-burns from spending too much time aloft. We've been tarring all the shrouds, structural support for the rigging that have a tendency to wear away with use, and servicing some of the most important blocks (that hold up the sail lines). The most awkward part was taking down the foot ropes on the yards (which enable people to walk out on the yards- perpendicular to the mast- see picture) and then realizing we were stuck out on the yards and had to shimmy back to the mast.
Anyway, that is a lot of boat talk. I've been moved into a cabin with the engineer and have discovered that being ornery and grumpy is an engineer trait. He has already warned me that he snores, hates sharing space and will punch me if I ever touch him. I mean, that just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Something tells me that he is really just a big teddy bear and I will force him to fall in love me with. He will be my surrogate father. I've decided. He's also in his late 50s and listens to Nine Inch Nails to fall asleep. Soul mate.
Enough for now.

Mackenzie,
I am glad to see that the increasing reports of pirate activity has not put you off your voyage. You know, you have all the makings of a great pirate wench. You love to hoist the grog, toothlessness is not a turn-off for you nor are limps, eye patches or the parrot addled shoulders of your would-be pirate suitors. I hope that you return with a belly full of one eyed pirate babies for your mother to dote over. AARGGGHHH!
xo Auntie Carson & Cap't David
Capt David and Auntie Carson are such encouraging role models! It's the piercing tendencys that have this pirate mother on alert, not to mention body tattoos, although you could just cover your body so the bruises are less noticeable! Connect the dots!
The weather is beautiful today in Boston so the parental pirates are hoping you have smooth sailing, see some whales and dolphins and gorgeous sunsets. On your time off you can wear those beer sunglasses and prop your feet up. Do feet bruise?

I am drydocked and (if) that fits the damp and increasing rainy weather here. Theo sends gurled sound that could be dolphinlike.

I'm glad to see things haven't changed with you and the Cramer. I just wish I was out there with you. Let me know when you are going to be in port in Maine and when you will be in Woods Hole because I want to come visit :) I have decided that I am going to resubmit my app as a deckhand for the fall and maybe for a assistant scientist because I really want to get back on the boat, so put in a good word for me :) Anyway I hope you are having fun and the weather stays nice. Hopefully I will see you sooner than later!!
